Blue Crow - ‘Emergence’ EP Review

Blue Crow’s debut EP ‘Emergence’ successfully achieves its purpose of emerging the band as one of the centrepiece’s in a melting pot of exciting new artists materialising across the South West.

Rating: 7.6

Favourite Track: Let’s Drink

Sounds Like: Mallory Knox, Audioslave

The Bristol quartet, consisting of Josh Dunnell (vocals and guitar), Jake Lloyd (guitar), Dan Bultitude (Bass and vocals) and Connor Churchill (drums) deliver their debut EP with professionalism, a purposeful artistic direction and an excellent technical display musically that leaves me hopeful and intrigued for the band’s future.

The powerful harmonies between Josh and Dan throughout the EP add great depth specifically on the choruses of songs ‘Let’s Drink’ and ‘Lost and Found’, as Josh regularly showcases his wide range and adept ability vocally, switching near the end of ‘Lost and Found’ to a powerful scream reminiscent of Chris Cornell’s Audioslave days.

Instrumentally the EP is tight throughout and all of the elements come together incredibly well, each song’s melody and rhythm are unique enough to provide individuality but don’t stray too far from the EP’s overall blues-rock sound. The technical prowess and skill of the band is showcased during solo’s that efficiently break up the songs ‘Seize the Day’ and ‘Let’s Drink’, Dan’s masterful bass playing full of funk and Jake’s creative solos and technically concise guitar riffs all important elements that compliment each track, whilst Connor’s proficient and confident drumming holds it all together brilliantly.

Overall ‘Emergence’ is a very solid debut full of intent from Blue Crow, and it is certainly a joy to listen to throughout. In terms of the EP’s production, Danny Guy at ADRS Studios in Bristol has done a professional and thorough job so full credit to him for his hard work.

The EP is available to stream on a variety of platforms, including Youtube and Spotify .
